Josh Meets Leeds United Heroes David Batty & Simon Grayson

As build up continues to his European title fight, The City Talking brought Josh together with two men who have both Leeds and Leeds United in their DNA, and who are big fans of Josh Warrington. Former United player and promotion winning manager Simon Grayson, and Second and First Division champion David Batty, have both been following Josh's career, and both had the same question ahead of this weekend's fight: could they meet him?

Josh took a morning off from training to meet Simon and Batts at Oulton Hall, where they talked about Josh's fights at Leeds First Direct Arena, his ambition of winning the European title there this weekend, and the special atmosphere Leeds fans create whether it's for football at Elland Road or boxing at the Arena.

David also shared his memories of some of the special moments he enjoyed as a Leeds player, while Simon gave his thoughts on his time managing United and on recent events at the club.

Josh Warrington Looks Forward To Next Leeds Arena Date

At yesterday’s press conference at Leeds Museum, iFL TV asked Josh Warrington what he’d been up to lately.

“Not much,” said Josh. “I’ve just been plodding along, working, sorting a house out, just general life really.”

“That’s the most modest answer ever,” replied iFL. “You’ve just signed a five fight deal with Matchroom Sport, you’re on the cusp of fighting for a European title and you’re the humblest guy in the whole place.”

“Ah well,” said Josh. “I’m just Joshie from the block, the dentist. The boxing tooth fairy.”

The interviewer had a point, though: Josh’s next fight was a big enough announcement on its own, but at the Museum yesterday Eddie Hearn took things up a notch.

Josh to Fight For Euro Glory in Leeds

Josh Warrington will tackle Davide Dieli for the vacant European Featherweight title at the First Direct Arena in Leeds on October 4, live on Sky Sports.

Unbeaten Leeds star Warrington can add the belt to his British and Commonwealth strap after Lee Selby vacated the belt after he secured an eliminator for the IBF World title, with Italian Dieli having designs on the belt himself having held the EU title in 2012. Warrington’s clash with the 35 year old tops a bill with former two-weight World champion Ricky Burns back in action, Light Middleweight World title challenger Brian Rose and Liverpool’s Super Middleweight star Callum Smith.

Tickets go on sale at midday today (August 26) exclusively for Matchroom Boxing Fight Pass members at www.matchroomboxing.com/fightpass and tickets on general sale from midday tomorrow following the press conference at The Leeds City Museum with the £30, £40 and £60 tickets available from the First Direct Arena on 0844 248 1585 and at www.firstdirectarena.com. VIP tickets priced at £120 are available exclusively from Matchroom Boxing on 01277 359900 and at www.matchroomboxing.com
